    Live tv

    MAC/XC or M3U type sub ?
  2. Are the channels just dark, or do you get something like media not supported or something ? Back during the world cup, when I had channels being blocked by my ISP, I installed Windscribe VPN on my Buzz and everything worked fine. On surfshark, are you using the same geographical server ?

    epg

When you say EPG loads fast. Are you sure it is not just Cached from previous use ? Many services offer a 7 day EPG, and therefore once cached, you will rarely see it updating the last 2 or 3 days, and current programs are always there.

Are you using XC type sub ? If so, from LiveTV, go to menu->settings->configuration and at the very bottom, you have a "stream type" option. Change it from TS to M3U/HLS.
  5. True, but the basic IR codes are the same, no ? My IR200 still works fine on an X5 and the Classic and vice versa, in IR mode. OK, it it is BT paired mode, that is a different story.
  6. He obviously meant downloading a movie from VOD, since he says "error downloads failed" Keep in mind that if you start a download, the device needs to remain on, otherwise download will be interrupted for sure.
  7. If there is a power glitch at any time, the box will turn on. It is the default action as soon as power is applied.
  8. 2 potential things to try: 1> As mentioned my dishuser, In LiveTV, press the menu button, and go to Settings->Configuration and on the top you will see the Media player for Live TV. Choice is "primary" and "backup". Try changing between players and see if it is any better. 2> In LiveTV, press the menu button, and go to Settings->Configuration and on the complete BOTTOM of the menu (you can probably just go upwards to get to the bottom of the list, you will see an option for stream format. Default is probably set to "TS". If you have the option, try changing it to "M3U8/HLS" option. For this specific change to take effect, you will probably need to exit Live TV (long press "back" and select "exit"), and then go back into LiveTV. (May be able to do it with a refresh or something, but properly exiting and then entering LiveTV again is a safe bet).
  9. Thanks allaboutbuzz. Just one piece of logic to add if you do it that way. IF it is a favorites category that is the only one selected to be visible, ensure that it at least has 1 channel in the category list. When I first did it, I selected only favorites to be visible, but I had no channels in favorites yet, so when I accidently exited, I had no categories visible since favorites only is visible when something is in the group. There is a small workaround (using the search option, finding a channel, and then adding it to favorites), but it would cause confusion and too many support tickets again
  10. Actually, I know what you are talking about, since I did it on my mom's box It is not to hide "all" categories. It is to hide the "All Channels" category itself... For my mom, I went through the channels and flagged all the channels she watches (about a dozen max) as favorites, and then I hid EVERY other category, including the "All Channels". That way, when she turns the box on, I sent it to go straight into LiveTV and Favorites category is the only one available. So no matter what she does, she won't be lost trying to find categories.. Pressing CH+ and CH- is all she knows how to do (can't teach her anything new at this age). Attached is a sample of what her organize favorites page looks like (I had taken a pic). Created all her favorites first, and then disabled everything else (including the "All Channels" category), except for "favorites". That way, she can't accidently find herself in some category confused and calling me to guide her keypress by keypress. When I did this, I know she was running BuzzTV version 5.0.775. But YES, as NBS mentioned, if you accidently hide "ALL" categories (when that option was available), you will have no choice but to reset the box to recover. I'm sure there is a way to address both issues. Maybe something to the effect of being able to go into "organize favorites" as long as the "categories" side panel is open, even if there is no category to select. Because with 5.0.775, if you hide all, and bring up the empty category side panel, and even though button legend says "green" to organize favorites, it would not do anything, since no category was selected (since none is visible). I found the option quite helpful for non-techie users to make the box "dummy" proof. However to bring that back and address the potential of hiding all categories without recovery (short of a reset) is Buzz's choice. They ultimately can make that call.
  11. I do not have any such issues with The Classic. Have you tried UNPAIRING the remote from the box, and then just using it in IR mode (instead of paired via Bluetooth) ? When you check in the settings, under "remote and accessories" is the remote recognized as a BT250 ? Just curious, since the layout is different on the BT100 (issues with original xrs4500) and BT400 (issues with newer xrs4500 units) vs the BT250, and "coincidently" where the EPG button is on the BT250 (top right of DPAD), is the "return/back" button of the BT100 For the PGUP/PGDN, just a hint, when in a list (like channel list or EPG), the CH+ and CH- buttons also work as PGUp/PGDn buttons (this does not solve your issues, but just saying, since they are more conveniently located).
  12. Do you have your WiFi router close to your buzz box ? Don't forget that BT and WiFi both operate on 2.4Ghz. Try changing the 2.4Ghz channel on your WiFi router if you are relatively close (channel 1, 6 or 11 to ensure non overlapping channels). There may be an interference. I would tell you to disable 2.4Ghz and stick to 5Ghz band only, but many IoT devices are 2.4Ghz only.
  13. Slow response ? Mine in pretty instantaneous, even with BT paired. Just go into "remotes and accessories" in the settings, and UNPAIR the remote. You can then just point it to the box to use the IR.

    What's better?

Both are great boxes. U5 has the advantage of having a SATA bay underneath for a laptop size (2.5") hard drive. I would recommend an SSD for it, since most mechanical HDD does get a little too hot. If he plans on doing a lot of PVR recordings, then the U5 would be nicer. But he would have the added expense of an SSD drive to take full advantage of it. Otherwise an X5 would be a little cheaper and you can still use the PVR features if you want, by using either a decent USB 3.0 stick or external HDD, plugged into the USB3 port..
  15. Good quality, name brand USB 3 stick should be fine. I have used many different one. Event the Sandisk USB3 ones that Costco sells relatively cheap are pretty decent. Try to avoid Amazon for those, since they often mix the sticks from many sellers together, if they are "same" part number and you can often get some cheap counterfeit ones. Also, make sure to use the USB 3 port (blue conenctor), not the USB2 one Can be used for TimeShift, PVR Recordings, VOD/Catchup Downloads, etc.. Also for transferring files or sideloading apps. I typically have all the latest version of the apps I install on my boxes, all on one stick. That way, if I need to reset a box, the reinstall is relatively simple.
  16. I think everyone gets it. But your problem is worse because your provider has the same movie a number of times, which just makes your list that much longer than most of us. On the image that Dishuser has shown in his post above, the service many of us use, has only 2 additional movies lower down other than the ones shown on the screenshot. So honestly, just a single screenful, so no big deal for us. V20220106 is just the firmware version, and no need to update that, unless something in the OS (or something deeper than buzz app) needs changing really. BuzzTV 5.0.799 is NOT beta. That is the latest public release on all boxes (Android 9 and Android 11 boxes, including the newer 5 series boxes, like the X5). Like I mentioned, BuzzTV 5 has been out of beta for ages. Don't know which specific box you have, but my XRS4500 (not MAX) has firmware V20220919 and BuzzTV 5.0.799.
  17. Did you check that there was no "scheduled" recordings ? Sometimes, there may be other IR codes that match the buzz box also.
  18. True, they do.. But also with 30 other movies Doesn't bother me, but some people prefer to narrow it down even more. Maybe in the search, each word could be like and "AND" operator. So as long as all the words appear, it would match regardless of order and other characters.
  19. Not sure MicroSD is your best option for TS. USB 3 is the best option for throughput. There is no mention on what standard the MicroSD card has been designed around, so no idea of speeds, and access times. Decent USB3 sticks are not that expensive nowadays. And you don't need anything HUGE anyhow. A small 32GB stick would be plenty. And like Ryu mentioned, makes sure to use the BLUE port (USB3), not the black one (which is only USB2).
  20. Try rebooting both your Modem and/or Router. Even if it all seems fine, you should try it. And try to contact your reseller to see if there is any known issue with the service, or if you account has been flagged maybe.
  21. FYI: BuzzTV 5 is not BETA any more. Has been out of beta for quite some time. I understand you only purchased it 2 years ago, but it was not a recent box then either. The xrs4500 has been around since at least early 2020, so the model is over 3yrs old now. Not saying it is a bad box (I have one also and still works great), it is just that as services offer more and more content, without any server side filtering, it takes longer for them to process the playlists and load the EPGs. I have multiple boxes. I have the X5, the U5, The Classic, etc... Those are the latest gen boxes. I like the X5, but I often recommend the Classic for most friends and family, since it is the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Same processor as the X5, comes with USB-C power input (like many of the new boxes), and includes a BT-250 airmouse remote which is similar to the older ones. BTW: You can't roll back once you upgrade to 5 (not as far as I know).
  22. On Channel list, yes, you can hide any categories you want. When you press OK and you are in the channel list (not the EPG), I believe it is the Green button to "organize categories". This will allow you to HIDE categories (check color legend on bottom of screen - I think it is yellow to show/hide categories). And even select and move categories around to change the order (select category with "OK" button, and then press Blue button to move it (then use DPAD up/down to move the category). Even though my provider has dozens of categories, I only have 10 or so visible since that is all I use and care about. No point in keeping language categories visible when I don't speak or understand the language. I don't know if VOD has anything similar, and I am not in front of my box right now to check. But LiveTV and VOD are 2 different entities. Filters you enable on one, will not affect the other.
  23. Maybe try clearing the cache of the BuzzTV5 app. But truth is that the 4500 is a last generation box, and many services are exploding in terms of the number of movies and channels they are including. It's a god thing for the users, but it also needs a little more power to process the extra info. I have seen many services that have 10k+ channels with all sorts of international offerings, etc... now asking users to choose categories they want, instead of just including everything. I have seen some services that on some entry level boxes (like the B5) take upwards of 45 seconds to parse the channel list.
  24. YOU ONLY need to post the same question once. Please check your other thread. This thread should be closed. Thank you.
  25. With the standard remote that comes with the box, you can't search for special characters. This is where the ARQ series remotes would come in handy. They have a keyboard on the back side, which would work. If you have a computer keyboard (wired or wireless), you can also use that. I just tried it with a basic dell usb keyboard and the search field DOES accept the "&" or any other character. https://buzztvglobal.com/en-ca/products/buzztv-arq-200-revolutionary-remote-control
