XRS 4500 internet connectivity issue
Emporium replied to BuzzTV member's topic in XR4500 / XRS4500 / XRS4500 MAX
Is that a Bell HomeHub ? If you absolutely want to connect to 5Ghz, I suggest you disable the built in band steering on those stupid integrated router/modems provided by Bell. Under WiFi, in Advance settings, you probably have some options to to allow you to split them and to rename the 5Ghz band (add a "-5" or something to it to distinguish it from the 2.4). Actually many IoT devices need this option done, but for the opposite reason (since they need 2.4Ghz, but they can't see it sometimes with band steering enabled). Doing this, you can ensure you are connecting to the 5Ghz band, without allowing the dumb modem/router to make the decision. -
Cool.. Growing up was pretty cool for me also. My Dad and I were on the same day. Mom and my sister were 3 days apart.

Try 3.. Mine is in 2 weeks

Thanks for the update. Guess it happens. i know I cringe every time I hear my remotes hit the floor when the wife forgets it's on her blanket and she rolls around. Or when she is moving plates around the kitchen and it is sitting at the edge of a counter So far I have been lucky that none have failed completely, but there have been a few ties where they have completely come apart (but managed to clips them all back together).

Just curious, as a test only, have you tried maybe another HDMI cable ? Tried it on another TV/Screen ?
-
That should not make a difference, but doesn't hurt to try switching. It is not sitting near any heat source (TV heat vent, etc..) ? Is it getting too hot maybe ? Have you tried maybe changing the USB cable or block adapter used for powering the device ? I have seen cases where cable or block adapter can no longer provide the required current (ie: they just fail at higher loads).

Keep in mind that when you turn max volume off, you have 2 volume controls. One is the ones on top of the remote which will control the TV volume controls (same as using your Samsung remote) assuming you get it learned. And then the second volume is the volume control of the box itself, which is controlled by the VOL rocker switch on the middle left of the remote. I rarely use the TV volume controls (since I don't use any other inputs any more). I have put the TV at a little over halfway up in terms of volume (each TV may be different), and then I just use the buzz box's volume controls.

This remote does not "know" any TV codes. When it blinks, for a bit, it is in "learning" mode. You point your TV remote to the front of the BT200, you press your TV power button and it learns (records) it. Then when you are out of "learning mode", when you press the power button, it replays what you recorded to it (ie: your TV remotes, power button). For the volume controls, the volume buttons on top are for you to be able to learn your TV volume. The volume controls in the middle on the side, are for the volume control of your U5. Honestly, the remote doesn't really care what you "learn" into each of the 4 programmable buttons. In my case, since I don't use the "source" feature, since the buzz box is the only thing I use, I have programmed the source button, as the "sleep" button (from my TV remote). So now every time I press the source button, my TV increments 30, 60, 90 minutes, sleep mode before it will auto turn itself off. The instructions are pretty clean in the manual link I provided earlier.

You don't pair it to your TV. You can pair the Bluetooth with your Buzz box. For TV, you have 4 IR learning buttons on the top (power, source, vol+, vol-) which you can "learn" the IR codes from your TV remote and use it subsequently. The manual for IR learning can be found here: https://buzztv.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/BuzzTV-BT-200-Remote-Manual.pdf To pair the Bluetooth with your Buzz box, from the setting, you go into remote/accessories and add device. Then to put RCU into Pairing Mode for BT Press “OK” + “VOL - ” for 3 seconds until Red LED “breathing on”. RCU enters pairing mode. Device name is BuzzTV BT-200, which should show up on the list. You select it to pair it. To turn the Back lit Feature On/Off, Long press the blue button on the bottom right of the remote for 5+ seconds. This will turn the back light feature on/off (illuminates for approximately 5 seconds when on). Keep in mind the backlight does drain batteries a LOT quicker, so just turn it on when you need it. It's easy enough to feel the bottom rightmost button of the remote, even in the dark, should you need it.

Check out the remote manual.. At the bottom there is "brand search" option. https://buzztv.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/BT400-300_manual_WEB_v6_Compress.pdf

You say "inapproriate image in some of the other catégories like english movies catagories". You mean the occasional "provocative" movie posters ? Welcome to 2023, it all over the place. On billboards, in the subway, ads in public transit, and even regular TV commercials. Sorry, but that is where a parent needs to control what the children are allowed to use. You take the remote, you select what you want them to watch and there is no browsing. Super simple. I used to download all the kids movies I wanted, and then my kids only had access to my old WDTV Live which had an external 1TB drive with all the kids movies on it. They were free to choose what they wanted that was on that drive, They did NOT have access to my satellite box or PC with DVB card (which is what I was using back then).

I think we have tried everything we can at this point. At this point, you are best to just contact Buzz directly at cs@buzztv.com and see if they can help.

Had you done the IR learning to program the TV power, source, VOL+ and VOL- buttons that are on the top of the remote ? If not, maybe you can try it, to ensure the remote is working and it is not the IR receiver on the buzzbox itself. Long Press the "TV Power" (red button) + “Source" (right underneath it) keys on the BT-200 RCU at the same time for 3 seconds until the Blue LED turns solid Blue. The RCU has now entered learning mode Press the key on the BT-200 RCU to be programmed, for example "TV Power" Key, the Blue LED will start blinking. Aim the TV RCU that you want to learn from towards the front of this BT-200 RCU (Distance less than 3cm). Press the button on the TV RCU that you want the BT-200 RCU remote to learn from. If the BT-200 RCU is programmed correctly the Blue LED on the BT-200 RCU will blink 3 times then turn solid Blue. This will indicate that you have programmed it properly. Optionally, Repeat Steps 2-3 for the "Source" button (or even the TV Vol+, TV Vol - if you want). Short press "TV Power" key + "Source" key at the same time on the BT-100 RCU to exit learning remote If after programming the TV power button to the remote TV power button (red button), and it works to turn your TV on/off, then odds are that it is the IR receiver in the buzzTV box that is no longer working. If it does not work, then it could be the remote itself.

LOL.. OK, I give you that. I made an assumption I guess we've all wasted too much time with

Is the remote paired to the box ? The BT200 is both an IR and a BT remote. The IR should work, just by pointing the remote towards the front of the box. For the BT to work, it needs to be paired to the box. Let's start with the IR. If the box is not responding to it, first thing to check is that the IR LED on the front of the remote is working. The LED emits and IR signal. You obviously can't see it, but the easiest way is to take your cellphone camera, then point the LED towards the cell phone camera and see if you can see the LED light up. A cell phone camera can usually see the LED light up. If that does not work, then the LED is burned out. If the IR LED seems to be working, then it may be the IR receiver on the 4900 that may have an issue (but I doubt it, since you say even the learning buttons don't work). If the IR (ie: pointing remote - is not working) If you have a computer mouse, you can connect it to the box, and then go to the settings, and select the remote and accessories option. Do you see the BT200 listed there ? If so, is it "connected" ? If not, then delete the remote (if it is listed), and then select to "add" a new remote/device. Press “OK” + “VOL - ” for 3 seconds until Red LED “breathing on”. Remote enters pairing mode. Device name is BuzzTV BT-200. You will need to have the 4900 in searching /add mode in order to fully pair the remote. But if the IR LED is not working, and the box is still under warranty, I'd contact cs@buzztv.com

You are 100% correct. This however was NOT the behavior a while back (resume from suspend, or from CEC resume would always take you to home screen). It was probably corrected in one of the many updates. Some of the updates have so many new features, that I often spend more time checking out the new features, that the fixes I just tested it on my new X5 64AX-C and from suspend, it resumes in LiveTV (if that is where you were) and resumes playing from the last channel. I even tested the "Virtual CEC" since I have the box connected to a computer monitor. Turn the monitor off while I was watching LiveTV. Took about 5 second, and the box went into suspend mode. Turn the monitor back on, and the box resumed and started LiveTV from the last channel I was connected to (box was playing before the monitor had even started displaying image - which is less than 3 seconds for my monitor).
-
Suspend on the 4500 will do that, but suspend on the 5 series devices will not as a far as I recall. It will start up faster (since it is just a resume), but will not go back into LiveTV. It restores from suspend back to the main home screen if I recall. I personally avoid suspend. A clean boot is priceless to ensure the stability of any device. Suspend over time does tend to cause issues especially with networking (mostly WiFi). That is a personal choice/preference I guess.

From LiveTV Menu-> Settings->Configuration->(near the bottom) Start Live TV on boot (Check it to ON).
-
CEC is the only way as far as I know. So if sound bar supports CEC, it should be able to be controlled. Otherwise, you will need to continue to use the remote of the sound bar for sound bar specific. You can either use CEC to control it. Or you can ignore the CEC stuff, and you can set the sound bar to some mid level, and then use the variable audio from the box itself. I have a small sound bar on my TV in my bedroom, and I just leave it at roughly mid volume, and just use the regular volume control on my box.

This is the U5 section... Not complicated, create a thread under your box model. The U5 and the xrs4900 don't even run the same OS.
-
There is nothing illegal about the buzzTV box itself. It is just a media player, just like their Amazon Fire Stick, Fire Cube, FireTV, AppleTV, etc... Unless however "your" ad specifies that it comes with some included IPTV service. They did crack down on many who were advertising included services with other IPTV boxes.
-
CHANGE batteries... When batteries are getting low, the IR functions will continue to work and BT functions will take a back seat.
-
That usually means it is NOT paired with BT. You are probably just using the IR functions of the remote. Manual can be found here: https://buzztv.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/BT400-300_manual_WEB_v6_Compress.pdf I'd probably go into remote/accessory menu, unpair the remote, then do a factory reset on the remote (see manual above), and then go into menu and add new remote and put remote into pairing mode to re-pair the unit.

**NEW** Official U5 Firmware + Buzz 5 App Update - April 3rd, 2023
Emporium replied to allaboutbuzz's topic in U5
When you formatted the SSD, you were given an option probably to format as portable storage or internal storage. I always recommend to people to use it as portable storage. But that is personal choice. If you format as internal storage, the Android OS will "adopt" the filesystem nd treat it as an extension of it's internal storage. Advantages are that "some" (not all) apps can install onto the ssd, keeping some more free space on the onboard. But the negatives are, that it can ONLY be ready on this box, and if the SSD ever fails, you will probably have no choice but to do a factory reset, since the OS would be missing a lot of files which were installed to the SSD and it would misbehave. Formatting it as portable, it is used only for file transfers, PVR recording, downloads, etc.. And the drive can be removed, and you can easily connect the drive to a PC to transfer files to/from the drive.
