Help needed with my box

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have an XR4000. It worked fine for sometime.

Lately I get "Media format not supported" error for 90% of my Live TV channels. And 100% error for VOD and TV Series.

Even the stuff I watched before get this error now.

I tried, changing to secondary player and even external VLC Player, still the same issue.

I have been with the same provider for a while now.

I did a soft reset and also a hard reset (tooth pick) and still the issue remains.

Version

When I did my reset, the version of the box stays at 5.0.766 (Firmware V20220919)

It does not get the latest version. I did try hitting 2015, and it says, No beta updates available for you.

I did DM @allaboutbuzz and asked if a new version can be pushed to my device. Awaiting response.

Also a weird thing, when I am on Live Tv, I saw an overlay that said, "New update has been installed. Buzz 5 v5.0.919"

But when I got to my update screen, it still says 5.0.766 no matter how many time I restart my box or how many times I hit "Check Update".

What are my options now?

Thanks. Will do.

Curious, does this sound like something wrong with my box or my service?

Not knowing much, I am assuming it is the former. Because, I see all my channel line up and all VOD Titles.

And the fact that 10% of the channels are woking and I was able to watch Titles on the VOD before.

Just curious.

Also, I did only once have an xrs4900 where after a pin reset, it would not take the first BuzzTV update over a wired connection (very strange).  I had to switch to wireless for the first one, and it was fine after that for subsequent updates.  Bizarre, but only say it once.  Maybe try swapping from one type of connection to the other if all else fails.

Go to LiveTV, Menu->settings->check updates for the BuzzTV update.

I did not want to bring it up here, but my box never worked with wifi. Like when wifi is enabled, it cant find any networks and quickly turns wifi off on it own. Luckily I have wired connection for my current set up. Couple of times, I took to friends place, same issue, wifi could not find any networks so could not use the device.

Let me try the Menu way of update and report back.

Do you have Bluetooth disabled ?  If so, enable it.  It can affect the WiFi radio also.  If it is enabled, try to toggle it (off, wait 5 second, on again).

So

1) Regarding updates: I did try check updates through Menu like you suggested. A message showed up at the bottom saying "Installing Update..." I let it be for 20-30 mins and checked the settings page and my box is still at 5.0.766. I did this couple times now. I see no update.

2) As for Bluetooth. I have always used a bluetooth keyboard for my box. so it is enabled. And I always get "Bluetooth stopped working" everytime I reboot my device. I just have to dismiss it.

Anyways, I just did what you suggested, toggled it off, 5 seconds and toggled back on. Also unplugged the ethernet. Turned on wifi. Still does the same. Wont show any available networks and I also tried manually adding the wifi name with password for no luck.

Bluetooth and other are least of my concerns now. I just need this media error go away so I can start watching something on this box.

And I read that software update fixed that for some people.

Do you typically use "suspend" or "shutdown" ?  When you turn the box on, does it go through the whole buzz logo animation each time, or does it power up direct to home screen ?

Over time suspend can cause issues.  Shutdown is best.

I am assuming you are using an XC API login.  In menu->Settings->configuration under Stream format, what are you using ?  If using Automatic (actually not sure when this option was introduced), change it to M3U/HLS first and see if it helps (you'll need to change channels after changing this option).  If that is not much better, try switching to "TS".  Also if you have "Real Time Streaming" and "Tunneled Playback" options (once again, not sure where they were introduced), turn them off.

From home screen, go to settings, the go all the way down to apps and select BuzzTV 5, and then Clear Cache.  Then from LiveTV, go to menu->settings->check updates again again.

menu

what version shows at the bottom?

At the bottom of the menu, the Version is 5.0.766

Which is consistent with what I see on the updates page and also what I see on Buzz TV 5 option in settings.

Thanks for all the input.

I never "suspend" but I just let it be on and just turn off the Tv. Once a week or so I shutdown the device.

I am not using XC API. I am using a MAC Server.

Also may be it does not apply for MAC Server, but I do not have that "Stream format" option. I looked around.

Let me clear the cache and try the Menu update.

Ok I just did the last part.

Cleared the cache. Menu -> check updates

I saw, Downloading update..dismissed in a second. Installing Update. Dismissed in 2 seconds. And the error pop up in the middle saying "Buzztv core keeps stopoing".

This is a new one. Never saw this error before.

Lol is it time for me to buy a new device.  I have used this for good 3-4 years now  I believe. I dont mind as long as I know its not the service and just my box.

I wish there is a way to tell one way or the other.

OK.. Try this again..

From home screen, go to settings, the go all the way down to apps and select BuzzTV 5, and then Clear Cache.

Then select "all apps" continue all the way down on the app list, and at the end you will see "show system apps" and if you continue scrolling you will find "BuzzTV Core"  Select it, and you can "clear data" on that.

then I would say probably reboot the box, before doing anything else.

If all else fails, there there is no harm in doing another "pin reset".

Did you try another pin reset ?  Got nothing to lose.

What I typically do is go to recovery screen using pin method.  "Wipe data factory reset".  then "wipe param partition" (this is typically not necessary since the factory reset usually does that, but it's an old habit) and then "Reboot system now".

after wipe data factory reset it reboots

so to pick those other options you would need to do a pin reset again no?

Pretty sure it does NOT auto reboot.  It comes back to the menu after it erases and formats the various partitions. You need to select the reboot option.    So before selecting reboot, I just wipe the param partition before rebooting.  But like I said, I am pretty sure that is already part of the "Factory reset".  It is just a habit from an old box that would not do it on an older version of android.
