**NEW** Official U5 Firmware + Buzz 5 App Update - September 22nd, 2022
Emporium replied to allaboutbuzz's topic in U5
Don't see any mention of a fix in the latest firmware that was just released. BUT I decided to test it anyway and I could not reproduce the issue. I tried for about 20 minutes channel surfing back and forth just like before (where it was not difficult to reproduce before). @Kone& @Wes Bullardcan you take the latest update, and then try to see if the problem persists ? For me, it seems to have corrected whatever the issue was (at least for now). I'll do more testing later this week and onitor it. Thanks -
The BuzzTV app does not have a browser integrated. It takes a server URL and/or user/password input for MAC and/or XC login style iptv subs. Or an M3U file as input. Now, if you are a little bit tech savvy, you could probably set up a simple script on the NAS server which would regularly run and create a M3U file of all the media files available on your NAS, and then just point to the M3U file on your local server. I don't see how different that would be from using an IPTV sever sub really. You could easily get some M3U file format examples. With a little trial and error it should not be too hard. But VLC is pretty simplistic, and supports SMB shares making it super simple. And the interface works pretty well through a remote, so no need for any simulated mouse pointers to get to some features.

Compatibility of 3rd party remotes is always a hit an miss. And the mapping of some keys can also be way off on some. I have some remotes, where the channel flashback key is on the remote "search/magnifying glass" key. And the menu key, is mapped to the "record" key. However I have never had an issue that I have not found a mapped key for the "back" button. Have you tried the emulated right mouse button keys on the keyboard ? Short of trial and error, there is not much "you" can do as an end user. Since Bluetooth has limited range, and as you have already noticed, you are better off with an RF based remote which use USB dongles. Maybe getting something like the Buzz ARQ-100 (or the newer ARQ-200 series) would be an option to look at in the future.

Don't think the basic E1 is powerful enough to handle buzztv5 and was never planned to go to v5 as far as I know. Like Ryu mentioned, only Android 9 and up were planned. The E1 is running 7.1.2. However you already have a later version that I am on the E1. What version of "firmware" are you running (settings->updates). My E1 is at firmware version V20201123. And Buzz version 4.0.489, updated 11/11/2020 It is slow (compared to my other units - which is expected), but I am not having any crashing issues however. Not sure what the latest version available is (the the E1), but maybe I will try the "V20211016" file which is under the E1 download section of this site, since mine is older.

Are any of these 200 series remotes available to purchase separately at the moment from any of the legit buzz sources ? I've seen the ARQ-200 now being offered as part of bundle deals with boxes, but I have not seen it sold on it's own yet. example: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/buzztv-xrs-4500-2022-edition-arq-200/14498785 I have seen one site only which seems to offer the ARQ-200 and 250, but not sure how legit it is, since it also promote some iptv services (so I will not post it here). Do we have any more details (or manuals) for the ARQ-200/220 or 250 ? Are the colored buttons on these remotes also transmitted over the RF/USB dongle (and supported by the current boxes) ? Or are they programmable IR only as with the typical mx3 clone style remotes (that look similar) that you can find all over amazon ? Thnx

You can use plex, jellyfin, or any other program if you want. I use both Plex and Jellyfin with my Synology (RS3617xs+, and DS1817+), since I like all the metadata it goes out and gets and the layout when looking to watch something. But that is more for my "permanent" movie collection. Plex is installed natively on the Synology, and Jellyfin is installed using a docker image. However, I am pleased to let you know that using VLC (that comes preinstalled), you can also browse your network shares, and you can easily play any music or video file that is supported by VLC. VLC supports SMB shares It is not as "pretty" as using plex or another media app, but it works. Reminds me of the good old days when I used to use my WD TV Live as my main media box

If you install a 2.5" HDD/SDD into the compartment underneath the 4900, or a USB drive, you will then go into the menu of Live TV, and then select PVR, then PVR options, which will have an option for "download storage" at the bottom to choose the destination. My E2 does allow download to "internal shared storage" (and I just tested it by downloading an AC/DC concert) , so check the menu option (as described above) and check to see if any download location is specified. On both of my 4900 devices, I only have the option for the internal SSD I installed as download storage, but I did not try by removing the SSD right now to see if it offers default of internal. BTW: I am assuming you are on the latest BuzzTV 5 ? Can you provide the version of BuzzTV listed at the bottom of the "menu" ? 4.0.xxx or 5.0.xxx ?
-
@denny111 If you have a 4900, then .774 is the latest buzztv 5 version available. You can not "downgrade" to .766. And unless there is specific reason (feature/bug), I don't see the logic behind that. For firmware, well that is specific to every box and not upgraded as often as buzztv5. The firmware on one box has no relation to the firmware on another. Not all boxes are upgraded at the same time to the same BuzzTV 5 level. Android 9 and Android 11 boxes can sometimes be a few version off from each other.
-
FYI: BuzzTV 5 is no longer in beta. Once you get the beta (using the 2015 method), you will then be in the queue to get the latest BuzzTV 5 (can take 20 or 30 minutes), which is NOT in beta any more.
-
Maybe if you list the things YOU expect to exist in the app, we can let you know if they exist in buzztv5.

And you can create a "favorites" list, which can have ONLY the channels you want. That's what I do. I could not imagine for daily watching, to have to go through all the categories one by one each time. By the time you go through them all, the programs are done and you have to start all over I go through through the categories once, flag my favorites, and then always use my favorites for every day use after that.
-
That is typically what you get if you press and hold the power key on the remote. The few times I have gotten that, I realize that the wife has fallen asleep and rolled over onto the remote

I don't know what server you are trying to connect to (please don't post since it is not allowed). Reality is, it all depends on what is in your m3U file. And M3U file can link to whatever media links you want. Can be links to live streams, can me direct links to other media (like MP4 or MKV files), or whatever. Example: this is one M3U link which links to some public Canadian live streams https://raw.githubusercontent.com/iptv-org/iptv/master/streams/ca.m3u Now if you want the best experience for LiveTV, VOD, TVSeries, the best is to purchase an IPTV subscription (there are 1000s to choose from, and some are great and others not as great). It can be either a MAC based subscription, or an M3U based one (which can often be used with the XC API style login). This would effectively populate your LiveTV channels, then when you go into VOD section, you would have your Movies, and then when you go into the TV Series section, you'd have all the TV Shows with the various seasons and episodes. This is unfortunately the WRONG forum to discuss IPTV Servers and services. Here it is only a forum to discuss the buzz boxes themselves, but not the servers.

I have my U5, X5, HD5 and my older xrs4500 connected to a 27" HP computer monitor via HDMI, and I have a pair of Bose sound companion 2 speakers connected to the Audio out from the monitor (which just takes the audio from the HDMI and outputs it over a standard 1/8" audio jack), and I have not noticed any difference in terms of volume loudness between any of the boxes (at least not with the 2 servers I use and one custom M3U list of live streams).

Users are NOT stupid, but you seem to be very stubborn. You do not seem to understand, it CANNOT be addressed. It is a BUG which creeped in, and it nothing can be done. It is NOT an unwillingness to do anything. It's an isolated incident, and sh!t happens. If a user is having issues with their box, they will go online, and eventually stumble across this site and get help.

The router probably has an option called "bandwidth steering". If it is enabled, the router tries to push devices to the 5Ghz band. If it is disabled, you will see 2 separate SSID (one for 2.4Ghz, and one for 5Ghz, and YOU can choose what to connect to. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. 2.4Ghz is very congested and slower max speeds. But it has a longer range than 5Ghz. 5Ghz is less congested, and faster. But does not have a long range, and will drop off quite quickly as distance increases. Also being a higher frequency it will not penetrate walls/doors, etc.. as easily. https://eyenetworks.no/en/why-band-steering-means-better-wifi/#:~:text=What%20Does%20Band%20Steering%20Do,to%20the%20appropriate%20frequency%20band. Many ISP provide modem/router all-in-one units. These are typically junk, and are rarely updated. They are just cheap all-on-one solutions for convenience. Cheap (like dlink) and no name routers are no better. They rarely provide any updates to correct or improve their devices. Some of the better brands (like Asus and Netgear on some models) provide quite frequent updates on their units, which provide many fixes for compatibility, better algorithms for the band steering, and security updates. And the updates can sometimes go on over 3 to 5 years after the device is purchased, which is pretty nice. Keep in mind that I am just referring to basic consumer grade units here. I also was given an all-in-one modem/router by my ISP. And very quickly, I disabled the onboard WiFi and got dedicated WiFi Access points, since I wanted more control and the all-in-one would work fine for a week or 2, then 2 or 3 days of h3ll. I eventually gave up, converted the modem/router to bridge mode (essentially disabling the WiFi and router functions - ie: becomes a dumb modem) then added 3 WiFi access points (2 upstairs and one in the basement - wired backhaul from router to access points), and my own pfsense based router/firewall. Obviously overkill for most, but it has been rock solid anywhere in the house (and even in the back yard). Many friends that have an all-in-one and complain about WiFi stability, I suggest at least one simple upgrade. Get something like a TP-Link EAP245 wireless access point, disable the WiFi on the all-ion-one, and connect and use this access point for your WiFi needs. It has better range, more stable, and it is only about $100 on amazon. And being sold by amazon, if you don't feel you got an improvement, it can always be returned easily.

But it's available on amazon canada, if anyone is interested. And it is sold and shipped my amazon, so not unknown 3rd party. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B079H4SPKF

Have you tried disabling the CEC options in the settings ?
-
Completely forgot about them. I had bought my first xpl3000 from them

True but the 4900 has the advantage of being able to add an internal 2.5" HDD/SSD (like the U5), making it ideal and a lot neater for those recording large amounts (or downloading VOD locally). I installed a 256GB SSD initially, now replaced it with a 1TB SSD in my 4900 and it works quite well. Don't need to use internal storage for recordings, and neither a USB key. But in terms of CPU power, yes the X5/U5 have the advantage. But keep in mind that the X5 and U5 are newer, so there may be a few little glitches initially, but Buzz is addressing them quickly as they appear, as usual. The 4900 however is getting harder and harder to find. Buzztvglobal canada site no longer lists it, and neither on amazon canada (direct from buzz).

I've been on this site (and others) way before I had this issue. I a number of buzz boxes (11 and counting) and they have been great at addressing any issues we find or features we ask for. A lot more than I can say about many other manufacturers. I noticed there was an update, but it was not a secret or any conspiracy theory, it was clearly stated that there was an issue with the 0624 firmware boxes. It was right there in the update announcement on Aug 11 firmware. If people have issues, they can always contact buzz Customer Service from the buzz web page. Depending on which site you go to, it either gives you an online form you can fill out, or an email address you can contact at.
