Terry Knapper Posted July 23, 2022 Author Posted July 23, 2022 I thought I would try recording a show(TV) that I was watching and seeing if I could, pause or go back. As soon as I tried that the recording stopped. So it seems that TS is the only way to accomplish this. TK Quote
Terry Knapper Posted July 23, 2022 Author Posted July 23, 2022 I didn't mean to step on any toes about IPTV, sorry about that!!! Both of my services have "catch up". Quote

Terry Knapper Posted July 23, 2022 Author Posted July 23, 2022 The problem I see with "catch up" is that you can't pick a starting point. I mean you have to go to the beginning of a "catch up" show(TV). Quote
dishuser Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 also you mentioned channels don't show ts are those channels that have catchup? Quote
Terry Knapper Posted July 23, 2022 Author Posted July 23, 2022 Catch up or no catch up still no TS. On another item, is there a way to force the X5 to remain power on? I use a Harmony remote. I programmed the remote to not even have the X5 as a "device", still when I power down with the Harmony it powers down the X5. Even my LG TV remote will power down the X5 when I power down the TV. I tried disabling the blue tooth on the X5 remote, no difference. Does the "Powerkey definition" have any efect? Quote
Terry Knapper Posted July 24, 2022 Author Posted July 24, 2022 Turning cec off did not help. Thanks for the info. TK Quote

Terry Knapper Posted July 24, 2022 Author Posted July 24, 2022 When I use my "Harmony" remote to turn on the devices I associate with watching my X5 (I have not enabled my X5 as a device in the Harmony remote) the X5 turns on (if it was off). I have a total of four activities I can access with my H. remote. Turning on ANY of the activities turns on the X5. Turning off any of the activities turns off the X5. I figured I would use my LG TV remote to turn off the TV and leave the X5 on. Turning off the TV ALSO turned off the X5. When the X5 turns off(via H. remote or TV remote) it takes about 5 to 10 seconds to power off. With everything in this state, if I use my X5 remote to turn on the X5, it WON'T turn on. With every thing in the above state, the only way the X5 powers on is with my H. remote, OR, if I just take the TV remote to turn on my TV, the X5 turns on. Sorry for the short story. TK Quote
Emporium Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 If you turn your TV off without the remote (ie: via the buttons on the TV itself), does the X5 also turn off ? Quote
Emporium Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 OK.. I found something interesting. I no longer have an LG TV, but I do have a few remotes left over from various TV sets I used to have. I used 2 different model LG remotes. But, even though the POWER button button does NOT have any effect on the X5, some other keys from the LG remote do. Keep in mind that this test was done with the X5 connected to computer monitor via HDMI (so no CEC or anything else affecting anything here). And there is no LG TV in my home, just 2 different model LG remotes pointed to the X5 Findings: the "FLASHBACK" key (labeled as "Q.View" on the second LG remote) react like a DISCRETE POWER OFF. They will not power the X5 back up, but they will power if OFF only The "9" key on the LG remotes, reacts like a VOLUME DOWN (there is obviously no auto repeat on this key so with every press the volume is lowered one notch). The "OK" button (labelled as "Enter" on the second remote - effectively the center button on the DPAD", from the main home screen, will bring up the "SETTINGS" menu, as if you selected the settings option on the top of the screen. Then there are 2 key "sequences". Strange, but after playing with it, I noticed it is ONLY of a series of quick presses of the following keys in sequence, will "work". So pressing 4-5-6 in sequence or pressing 8-4 in sequence, will react like the "Buzz logo" button on the BT400 remote, and launch you straight into LiveTV (I put cursor on home screen to PVR, to ensure it was not an ENTER/OK key which was registering, and no matter where cursor is, it launches into LiveTV). I tried these many times to ensure it was not just one of the keys triggering the effect, but strangely enough it is the full sequence. Any variation did not do anything. I tested the same remotes on an xrs4900 and had no reaction to any key from the LG remotes on the 4900. I did not test any other boxes, but if needed, I can gladly check. I also tested 2 different Samsung Remote, 2 different Sharp Aquos remotes, and 1 Sony remote. None of these, no matter what sequences or keys I tried, seem to have have any effect. I did not test the remotes to see how they react within the LiveTV app, but if needed I can gladly test things also. I did these tests quickly, so there may be other key sequences that have some effect, but the combinations are endless. The ones above are just some I happened to stumble on accidently. So this is something specific to the codes LG uses which seem to also be picked up by the X5. Considering this does NOT affect the xrs4900 in any way, I am assuming this is probably some debug code that may be left over on the X5 from the testing of the new BT400 remote on the X5. I am not the dev on this, so this is just an assumption, but maybe @allaboutbuzz can check the remote IR detection routines and see if there is anything which would explain why the X5 also responds to these keys. I would have assumed the IR stuff would have been very similar between the X5 and the 4900, but then again it is different hardware, so maybe it uses different routines. Guess we'll wait to get a response. Quote

Terry Knapper Posted July 24, 2022 Author Posted July 24, 2022 Is there a CEC toggle on a TV like my LG TV. I thought you meant POWER ON/OFF. To be more specific, my LG TV is a UHD Nano cell Smart TV, 65 " I WILL try turning my TV ONN/OFF with the buttons on the TV. Keep in mind that my X5 remote DOES NOT turn on my X5. It may be time for a factory default reset, if there is an option for that. I will look at my TV to see if I have access to the CEC . Terry K p.s. I believe that my X5 remote NOT powering on my X5 is the first thing to clear up. Quote

Terry Knapper Posted July 24, 2022 Author Posted July 24, 2022 Here we go. I bit the bullet and did a factory reset. After entering all my data things are exactly the same. Here is a few things I found out. 1st I DID toggle the CEC(TV) OFF. If I physically UNPLUG my TV, while watching X5, the X5 turns off and the X5 remote will NOT turn it back on. When I am watching X5, and I UNPLUG the HDMI cable from the X5 to the TV , the X5 turns off and the X5 remote will NOT turn it back on. The reason I am making such a big deal out of this is because I am getting unreliable recording. I mentioned this to "Mike". He figures it has to do with the X5 turning on and off during recording; especially when I record 2 or 3 shows, one after the other. I do not enter extended record time, figuring this may interfere with recording one show after another(live TV). TK 1 Quote
Emporium Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 OK.. I managed to reproduce the HDMI CEC issue even with my HP 27" computer monitor the X5 is connected to. Went into settings->device preferences->display and sound->HDMI CEC section. Then just in case, before disabling "CEC SWITCH" (first option), I first disabled the second option "DEVICE AUTO POWER OFF" (just in case it was made unavailable but actually still internally enabled). Then I actually disabled the "CEC SWITCH" option. If I then go back to home screen (this point is not needed), and then just turn off my monitor, it actually turns off the X5. So it looks like the X5, even though CEC is switched off, it still detects monitor being turned off, and it goes into a Standby mode. And obviously, the remote has no way to wake it up, since the remote device is still powered off. IF I turn on the monitor, the box turns on and is ready before my monitor even has a chance to initialize So it seems like the X5, regardless if you have turned off the CEC option in the settings, it ignores it, and still follows the remote device state. Maybe @allaboutbuzz, when he gets a sec, could look into why the X5 unit is NOT ignoring CEC commands to turn off when the setting is actually disabled. 3 Quote
Terry Knapper Posted July 25, 2022 Author Posted July 25, 2022 Thank you "Emporium" for the "investigation" ! I originally thought that it may be my NEW X5. But, since your X5 is doing the same thing there would be no sense in me returning my X5 under warranty for a NEW one. I'll have to check to see if I am still with in the 15 day return policy. I would like to believe that "Buzz" would accept these issues as issues to be addressed and maybe extend the "15 day thing", if I decide to go that route! Pro's & con's, from my humble perspective; The X5 EPG is much superior to my TiviMate app. I like the lay out of the "home" screen. I like that the "favs" are on the "home screen" for all to see I like the ability to go back on a "catchup" channel to as far as the "catchup" goes. I have still not been able to do this with my TM app. Since my main reason for getting a X5 was to play & record live TV reliably , this is not for me(right now) I find the remote a bit of un-user friendly. RAISED buttons around the up, down, left & right would be a great thing. The "colored" buttons are hard to see, even with the back light on. TS is still a mystery to me since my 2 providers do not come up as TS candidate's for this option. Talking about pausing live TV. Pressing the "pause" button would be a nice option. I would like to thank every one for there support & input. Hopefully, to be continued. Terry Knapper Quote
Terry Knapper Posted July 25, 2022 Author Posted July 25, 2022 Yup. I already returned one about two months ago. I wanted to give the X5 an other shot. So I got this one. Buzz TV were real good at the return thing! TK Quote
Flyinghigh Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 My understanding is 30 days to return. Is that correct? Quote
