    this pic proves you wrong

The DATA backup, as we have in BuzzTV 5 app, can be anywhere (internal or external).

However the OLD backup (as was originally available on Android 9 boxes - option under Settings->BuzzTV Utilities), is only to external, since it takes an "image" of the internal drive.  Actually I just tried in on my 4500 and E2 (it has been removed on the 4900 - and I think it should be from all others if there is ever another update on them).  If you try to launch it with no external storage, it actually gives you a full screen warning that there is no external storage and only option is "ok" to exit the app.

  2. Do you have a 5.1 Surround system ?  I believe it tries to do passthrough to a device that can decode it (so obviously it does not control volume if decoding is done elsewhere).

If not, From home screen, go to Settings->Device Preferences->Display & Sound->Advanced sound settings->Select Formats, and select "None: Never use surround sound".

  3. That second backup, as much as it may "sound" useful, in reality it is often not.

99% of the time, when you perform a reset, it is to address some strange issues (strange behaviours and often due to corruptions or incompatibilities between apps).  Doing a full backup, and then restoring it, you are just copying ever whatever crap caused the problem in the first place.

The new backup method, backs up exactly what is important to most buzz users, which is the settings of the BuzzTV IPTV apps (server settings, and favorites), and it is not in any binary format, they are exported to a yaml file, which (similar to other markup languages) is ideal for configuration files, so it backs up just what is needed and not the cache files, binaries, orphaned files, etc.. which can be the source of the strange behaviours you are often trying to correct.

3rdparty apps that are complex to setup and configure, SHOULD have their own mechanism to export their configuration.  A full backup should not be a substitute for the lack of 3rdparty devs not foreseeing and easy way to do a backup of their software settings.

Just my view and opinion.  I was also skeptical when the new backup mechanism was introduced since I was used to the old/full mechanism (old habits die hard), but after using both, I have realized that the full one, was really less useful.  This new mechanism I use on many boxes and quite regularly.

    Wow Ryu that was easy!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the best features Buzz added.  Makes it so much easier when setting up a box.

Future improvement would be nice if they show you the current servers and allow you to select one and edit it.  It can be done manually if you know the index and alter the URL manually, but would be nice if they had a small UI for it.  But that is just a "nice to have" 🙂

also on your 4500 did you do a factory reset and see if restore worked or not?

Yes, but you want to make sure you have a proper backup on USB key before doing a factory reset 🙂

But YES, it CAN be used from one device to another as long as they are on BuzzTV 5.  I do it all the time.  I create server profiles on one one box and then back them up and move them to another all the time.

But like I said earlier, you NEED to make sure that when you do a backup on your 4500, you move the backup ZIP file to your USB key.  By default I believe it goes to internal storage.  And then on your 4500 MAX, if it doesn't see it, you MAY need to copy the ZIP file back to it's internal storage (don't think you need to, but you can try) and then make sure you have selected to look at the correct location.

If you check your USB key, you should have a ZIP file (named something like: buzztv-backup....YEARxxYY_99999.zip ), and inside that ZIP file is typically just a single file called "backup.yaml".  Do you have the ZIP file on the USB key ?

  6. Agreed, forgot about that one, since I never had one 🙂  But the 3900 also used a 5v,3A power adapter instead of the usual 5V,2A on other boxes.  So "technically"if they needed 12V for the sata connector (assuming it was actually wired for 12V), they have a little more current to allow some up-converting to get the 12V.  But obviously I did not design the boxes, nor open them up to investigate how it was done.  I am just "assuming".

Bottom line is, make sure you are using the power adapter that came with your specific box, or at least something of the same voltage, and at least the same amount of "A".

    due to internal hdd?

    every device has that

When I said internal HDD, I meant the SATA connector.   The xrs4900 and U5 use a 12V instead of the 5V, probably due to the SATA HDD connector which has a 12V line (I know it is not used by most newer drives, but it is still part of the SATA connector spec).

Bonehead move on my part. I was not using the power supply that came with it, was using power supply for old box. Thanks for the tip.

You are lucky it was in that direction.  DO NOT use the U5 power supply on the older boxes (except the xrs4900).

The U5 and XRS4900 use a 12V power supply (due to the internal HDD), most (if not all) of the other Buzz boxes use a 5V power supply.  Do it in the other direction and it may be a "smokey" experience.

Thanks for that insight. Yea. I’m particular and wanted something different than a shield. I’m kinda an audio snob. I’m wondering if the other newer boxes are actually passing through truehd as advertised or kinda doing the same thing.

They are not in circulation yet, so kind of hard to say at this point.

  10. Pretty sure right now, they are super busy with the launch of the Android 13 devices, with BuzzTV 6.

Not a common setup for many people, so hard to even get too many people to test, on different boxes.  And Android 9 boxes (as in your 4900) I am sure handle it differently than Android 11 boxes (like the X5, Classic, etc..).  Not sure how Android 13 buzz boxes will handle it also, since they are not in public circulation yet.   On my classic, since I don't use any surround sound system and it tries to do passthrough, I need to force it to "never use surround sound" (option on Android 11 boxes), otherwise I have some 5.1 encoded streams that hang.

  11. Version of BuzzTV 5 ?  from liveTV, press menu, and should be on bottom of the menu (5.0.xxx)

MAC or XC type login ?

If it is XC, have you tried changing the "stream type" ?  If it is set to Automatic, try setting it to M3U/HLS or TS.

Also, for recordings, SD card is not the optimal option.  USB 3 drive is the best option.  Even if you SD card is a super fast card, there is no specs on what controller/speed is on the SD slot on the buzz boxes.  SD card on buzz boxes is typically used for recovery/firmware updates.  I know many who have used SD cards, and eventually switched to a USB3 drive and problems went away (just a thought).

Now, for the fact that 2 recording worked even though you have a single stream sub, that depends on your provider and how they enforce it.  If you are in LiveTV, and go to menu->Settings->Account info, does it show active and max connections ?

Keep in mind that if there is a glitch in the stream, or if the stream gets redirected by the providers, the recording will stop (and not resume).  The stream needs to be continuous and flawless.

Ha....I had turned it off, but I just unplugged it and that seemed to work....thanks

Now you know what I asked if youtube was working 🙂

Do yourself a favor.   Change the "powerkey definition"  to shutdown, instead of "suspend" (if I recall, from home screen, go to settings->more settings->powerkey definition).  Yes it takes an extra minute to power up, but at least it is a clean boot all the time. not just waking up from a suspended state.

Reason I ask for youtube is to make sure that the internet connection is actually working on the box. Just checking the basics  🙂

Latest "public" version I believe is 5.0.919.  From LiveTV, go to menu->setings->check for updates  (or something like that - not in front of my box right now).
