  1. First of all, something is not normal with your box slowing down on large files.  I have easily streamed 50GB BluRay rips (with a dozen or so included soundtracks and dozens of subtitle tracks encoded in the mkv), without an issue in the past directly from my Synology RS2418+ NAS, and from my smaller DS1817+.

Secondly why are you so stuck on trying to get the U5 drive visible on windows ?  Why don't you just use a file manager on the U5, and do it the opposite way around like I mentioned previously.

Solid explorer, ES File explorer, Total Commander just to name a few are Android file managers which support SMB and can see windows file shares.  Find the window share, select the movies you want, and copy them over to your attached storage.  Not complicated really.

  2. Did you read what DU said ?  If it is seen as internal storage, then the enable of sharing will be able to browse that also.

Other option if you want is to use a file manager (I use solid explorer, but there es file explorer, total commander, etc..) which have SMB support and can access you other network shares and you can initiate the copy from your U5 and copy from your remote share to your box.  I do this all the time.

But WHY copy locally ?  The U5 has a gigabit connection, why not just stream directly from network instead of copying locally ?  Even without setting up any plex or jellyfin server, you can use VLC and it will allow you to browse your local network.  I just tried it even on my older 4900 and it saw all 5 of my currently active NAS servers without even a hesitation and was able to browse and stream.

    Hi,

I want to test something and i have a question. I want to move a file directly to U5 and play from it to see if thats the issue. The problem is the U5 does not have enough space (i think default is like 26gigs). Can i attach USB3 memory drive say 256gigs and transfer the video file directly from my computer to the USB drive and then using Plex/VLC to play it directly from the USB?

It would be super usefully in cases like this that maybe my files is to big and i could in the future attach a few TB drive to U5 and have on it only the super large files that are = to 30-50gigs in size.

    Thank you

Once you plug a USB drive into any Buzz, you can launch VLC and you can then scroll down to the external device, and locate the media file that is on it and play it.  I do it all the time on my mom's box.

    found 17 star trek

Lol.. Sure you can find them (never said you can't).  But if you have a service like the OP, which has dozens of each movie, you can use the ":" to narrow it down to a specific movie. There is always a way around it.

Guess the search box could also be completely converted as an input and use the default google keyboard popup for input.  That would allow people the flexibility to just configure their google keyboard and search in whatever character set they want.

  5. If the controller is registered as a device and Steam Link app doesn’t seem to recognize it, it is NOT the box that is the problem.  Steam link app is the issue.

And don't expect any updates for the hardware.  The 4900 is an older box (on Android 9), but it is a great box for IPTV (what it was intended for).  The 5 series boxes are on Android 11, and just around the corner are the new Android 13 boxes which were recently announced.

  6. WiFi or wired ?   If it is WiFi, can you test with Wire ?   Could be router getting overwhelmed and not the U5.

I gave up on plex a little while ago.  Every version brought a new bug which annoyed me.  I have my video library on my Synology and just use DS Video.   But in this case, since you tried streaming using VLC, I don't think it is a plex issue.

I'm assuming no transcoding is enabled on the plex server ?  Does it do this with h.264 encoded media also ?

Have you tried to use a file browser (lie ES File explorer, solid explorer, total commander, etc..) which has SMB support, to try to copy the file from your file server over to the U5, to see if it can do so in a stable manner without slowdowns ?

There are quite a few variables and you need to divide and isolate them one by one.   File server, network (wifi vs wired), router, plex server config, etc..

Does your equipment support 5.1 surround ?  Have you tried with media that does NOT have 5.1 audio (just stereo) ?  If your setup does not support 5.1 audio, try disabling the auto detection.. From Home screen, Settings->Device preferences->Display and Sound->Advance sound settings->Select formats (and select "none: never use surround sound").

  7. Same here.  XC login, Server EPG (xml works fine also and seems quicker, but server is most up to date), and I have just a little over 6 days forward and the Buzz has cached 7 days previous also.

You using MAC/XC/M3U ?  Have you confirmed that your service HAS a decent amount of EPG (Try using some other iptv app just as a test) ?  I have used a few in the past that barely have anything (but that is not Buzz issue).  I even still use one service, which has 0 EPG, but it has piles and piles of international channels that others don't.

Have you tried to "clear EPG" in order to force it to try to refresh ?  On the older boxes like the 4500/4900 when clearing EPG, they can sometimes be a little picky.  So what I do is go into the menu->settings->configuration, clear EPG, then once I see the message at the bottom, that says EPG has been cleared, I get out, long press the back button to get the "exit" prompt.  Exit BuzzTV 5 LiveTV, and then once back to home screen, launch LiveTV again.  It will slowly populate again.  Some servers are faster than others however.  Main server I use is relatively quick, however I have seen others that are incredibly slow (1 channel per second in some cases).

Yeah, I gave them that option of using 2 remotes and they would rather unplug it when they aren't using it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

And like I said the TV is older too so it might that. My Sony works perfectly and I have a sound bar too.

Is the buzz box the only thing they use on that TV ?

I have one TV and that is all I use is my u5 buzz box.  My remote is not programmed to TV.  So configured the buzz box to disable "Force max volume", so that way the volume on the remote controls the variable volume output of the buzz box.  The TV volume is always set to about 65%, so  that way the volume button on the remote will control the volume from the box to vary from 0% to 65% max volume of the TV.   And the tv input is always set to HDMI1.   So all I need to do, is power on the TV (I usually just press the button on the TV), and then afterwards everything else is controllable from the buzz remote.

Can you backup up favorites from 1 MAC server and restore to another MAC server?

    Using U5, firmware version 20230815

    From Menu->settings->configuration->backup/restore

From one box to another, no problem.  From one server to another on same box, not typically.

  10. If you did a factory reset of the REMOTE, it should no longer be paired with the TV.  It should have 0 control of the TV.  That was the whole point.

I never pair my remotes with the TV.  My box is configured with powerkey definition as "shutdown".   Disable the "force max volume" option.

Then I turn on the TV, put the volume to halfway or 60%.  Then control everything from the box, including the variable volume.  On remotes like the BT250, which have learning keys, I'll program the 4 keys for TV volume, source and TV power.  But the BT300/400  pair, but does not always work well with all brands and CEC implementations.  I prefer just leaving it unpaired so the buzz remote controls only the buzz box, nothing on the TV.

    .

  11. Did you actually "program" the remote ?

Try to do a factory reset of the remote (to be independent of the TV).

To factory reset the BT300/400 remote: Hold the D-Pad Down button and the 0 (Zero) button for 4 seconds until it blinks 3 times.  Then try it again.

Also make sure the powerkey definition is set to "shutdown".  I believe by default it is set to "suspend".

  12. On your Modern screen, I don't know if that is some reflection, but you seem to have applied a background image. If that is what you want to fix, then From Home Screen->Settings, and then go over the "BG Image" button, and long press, to remove the background image.

  13. It is not adjustable on the Buzz box default players as far as I know.

However for VOD/TV Series, you could set it to use "External" player if you wish, and then you can adjust it to whatever your external player allows.

  14. Unfortunately there is no way to hide the "languages" since they are just in the "title" in "()"   🙂   Guess if there was an option to hide VOD categories (and assuming your provider has each language under it's own category) and exclude hidden categories from a search that would be an option, but that would be a new feature.  Maybe something for Buzz to consider on BuzzTV 6 🙂

  15. The problem here is very specific to a specific service.  Could be anything from "special characters" in the title descriptions which others ignore, but Buzz does not.  Could be the search mechanism that is used.  If you put multiple words in the search box, does it do an "AND" for all words, an "OR", convert to a REGEX, just a quoted string search, I have no clue ?  Also, seems like your provider (unlike most) has dozens of copies of each movie, in different resolutions, languages, etc...  Could be that there is some limit that is being hit on the total number of VOD listings.  Or it could be something completely different 🙂

Honestly, the only way to really figure it out, as already mentioned, is to provide the provider info, login type used (MAC/XC/M3U) and an example of search/fail to Buzz and hope they can get access and see if they can reproduce.  If they can reproduce it, then they can probably create a fix for it.  But like nbs mentioned, don't expect a quick fix, since they are super busy with the new boxes right now.
