  1. Are you 100% sure that there are no accidental spaces in the m3u link when you type it in ?  Sometimes the Android keyboard can have a tendency of adding a space after every "." which if you are not looking at the entry field it is easy to miss.

Have you tried using the BuzzTV 5 app to see if it works ?  The BuzzTV 5 app was added there to give users a choice using the previous version of BuzzTV, since when the P6 came out originally, BuzzTV 6 was still missing a few features.  You have nothing to lose by trying it with BuzzTV 5, just to see if it works.

I have not used IPTV Editor, but I do have a bunch of my own M3U lists, which I host on my pastebin account and I have no issues with any of those.

And XC definitely works, since my main server uses XC and I have zero issues with it.

Like NBS mentioned, turn max volume off, and that will allow you to control the volume using the Buzz remote.  If you already have it off, continue reading below.

What is your setup ?  just basic sound from TV speakers, or a basic soundbar.. OR full blown surround sound, etc.. ?  If you are only using stereo you can try the following it should disable the auto detection of some 5.1 streams which can cause controls to be a little unpredictable.

If your setup does not support 5.1 audio, try disabling the auto detection.. From Home screen, Settings (Gear icon)->Device preferences->Display and Sound->Advance sound settings->Select formats (and select "none: never use surround sound").

  3. The T2 may be allocating a slightly larger cache on it's internal player, which will just mask network glitches and be a little more immune to freezing because of that.  But still doesn't change the underlying issue.  The fact that the T2 freezes also, tells me there is either some issue with your internet, or something with the servers.

  4. Have you tried rebooting your modem and router ?

OK, I know it sounds like a long shot, but it has happened to me on at least 3 different occasions, so I will put it out there.  Do you have any Dlink switches (or router) on your network.  If so, do you have alternatives to replace them ?   In at least 3 cases I had, myself and at 2 buddies places, simply the existence of a DLINK switch on our network cause all sorts of strange behaviors which I could not explain.  Even if it had nothing else connected to it, when they start to fail, they seem to create chaos on a network even on devices not directly connected to these switches.    Swapped out all dlink equipment (with netgear or even tplink) and all the problems went away.  In one of my buddies cases, it was a brand new dlink router he had purchased (we swapped it with an old asus one and issues solved).  Don't know what the dlink equipment was doing or what would trigger it, but I have since promised myself that no more dlink junk in any of my installations.   In my case, the dlink switch was on my test bench (where I often build/test machines), with no machines connected to it, just the main network line coming from the main switch.  Since it had no devices connected to it, I completely discounted it initially, and took me quite a while to diagnose the issue.  Actually took a few days - until I decided to go down to basics and disconnect all devices and run single line only direct from buzz box to router - and then work my way back up.

  5. Like nbs said.  If the catchup server from the provider goes down, then it does NOT record the streams, so you will get an error when you try to access them.  In my years of experience, catch-up is a hit & miss on most servers.  There will be times where it is rock solid and always works.  And there are other periods of time, where it will be an exercise of patience and frustration.  I am lucky enough that the main service I use is pretty quick in updating their TV Series section with episodes typically withing an hour or two after it airs.  So often I will not use Catchup, but rather go to the TV Series section, find the show I want and most often, the episode is already online.  Also the fact that I am on the east coast (North America), I often catch shows I miss, by using the network local channels from the central and west coast feeds (this is where having a full program guide even for local stations [like 50+ CBS, ABC, NBC channels, etc..] is critical).  Obviously this option does not work well for "live" events, typically sports.

It can happen with the best of servers out there.  At the price many of these services cost, I tell people that they should probably get more than one decent service if they can't deal with occasional glitches and downtime.  This will ensure that if one service is down, hopefully the other service is up.  There is no Service Level Agreement, like you would get with a cable company.

Also, keep in mind that Buzz does not provide support for any specific service.  They provide the boxes and software and do NOT sell or recommend any services themselves.  Buzz TV themselves will never sell you any box with a service preinstalled.  So this type of issue, should be addressed with your service provider typically.

  6. What type of Subscription do you have ?  XC based (URL, username/password) ?  Or does your provider just provide the boxes preconfigured without giving you details ?

I'd say, that if you are using an XC based subscription, you can try loading up other 3rd party software (like "smarters") and see if it does the exact same thing.  If it does, then the problem would be on the server side, not the box itself.  That is how I usually confirm if the catchup server on my service is down or not.

  7. If you are going to exchange the box, why not try a hard factory reset first ?

    Different box, same procedure:

    https://stbtalk.com/topic/300-factory-reset-hard-reset-xr4500-xrs4500/

You'll need to re-setup the box after you reset it obviously.

PS: Don't forget, if you have a lot of favorites configured, you can use the backup option that is under menu->settings->Configure but make sure to do the backup to a USB stick, so you don't lose the backup after a reset.

  8. No way and even that would be depending on 3rd party (like imdb/tbdb for VOD/TV Series).  And on LiveTV, there is no real rating included for the content.

But what I had done when my nephews were younger was create a separate server entry.  This server entry would use the same server as my main entry, BUT I had created a single favorites category and had added all the children's channels I approved of.  And to be on the safe side, I had hidden all the other categories.  So even if the press "OK" and back on the dpad, there was only a single category (since all the rest are hidden).

Depending on your provider, you can also probably hide a bunch of categories from the VOD/TV Series section also, just in case.

Keep in mind, this is simple a server entry.  So when the kids are gone, you can just reselect your main server entry, which has all you normal unrestricted categories.

BTW: Don't try to change server entry in front of the kids, do it ideally before they show up 🙂  They are pretty quick and pick up on how to switch back and forth pretty quick.

  9. In my case, I turned it on earlier today.  I tried to manually check for updates and it was saying that it had an update and the correct one (versions I mentioned above).  But every time I tried to install it would flash something quick on bottom, and then that it had to reboot, and it would, but no update would be installed.. Rinse and repeat a few times.  So I left it powered on for about 2hrs, but got no auto popup.. Then I tried again to check if there was an update manually again, and this time it told me there was NOT.  Which reminded me of the last time where it was saying yes, yes and then after a while it said no.   So once it said there was no update, I rebooted the box, and after it rebooted, within 2 minutes I got an automatic popup, which worked fine.  So it is a bit picky, but eventually works.

  10. This forum does not allow open discussion of specific services.   It is a Buzz forum and can only discuss their hardware/software.

There are many other forums out there that discuss specific services.

And when you refer to multiple connections, what exactly are YOU referring to ?

    • A service which can be installed and used on multiple devices ?
    • Or a device which can simultaneously connect and consolidate channels from multiple services into a single playlist ?

  11. If you are refering to the "Roger xfinity stream" app, then that was a choice from Rogers to NOT support any Android TV boxes.  They seem to only support amazon firestick devices for TV, and rest is mobile only and web.

Probably because their app is based on the comcast xfinity app, which made if very clear that AndroidTV boxes are not supported.

Scroll down the page to the "Unsupported Devices" section and you will see that the first thing they list is Android TV.

    https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/xfinity-tv-app-requirements

And you will see it also says "Other devices not specifically mentioned", so they have decided to make it VERY restrictive.

However, if you want, you can try downloading this app, and side loading it from a usb stick and file browser.

    http://aftv.news/5732122

This is a slightly modified version of the Amazon app, which was slightly modified to work on android boxes.  I tested it and it installs perfectly fine on my X5.  And it launches.  But that is where my testing ends, because I do not have a Rogers account to go any further.

This is not a Buzz issue, but rather a dumb choice from the provider to not support Android boxes.

  12. Do you have a pile of 3rd party apps installed ?  Have you done any recording on the onboard storage (check under PVR section) sometimes if you have the single button record option enabled and you accidently press the red button it records (my wife does that often) and you don't realize it.

Basically you need to free up some storage on the box.

  13. If you go to menu->settings->configuration (where you change the player options), and you scroll down, do you have an option for "Stream format" ?  If so, experiment by changing that option.

  14. If the IPTV modded app keeps nagging you to update, then the issue is with the modded app itself.  It is not playstore or aptoide issue and not something that the buzz box can stop.  If the app has access to the internet (obviously to stream) then it has access to it's own update servers to check if there is an update available.

I also use many updated apps, and sometimes the modders miss  certain functions and after some time, they trigger an update check.  Some apps have a few different mods and some are better than others, and in some cases each has their own flaw.  Wait for next version of modded app.  There are other forums which discuss many modded apps, and often the modders themselves are replying to requests.

  15. You are funny.

First of all, this has NOTHING to do with BuzzTV5. So you are in the wrong category.

Secondly, you are so ignorant that you think that Buzz would help you (or anyone) circumvent another developers restrictions ?  Buy the app (they are trying to make a living too), or use it as it was intended if there is a restricted free version.  You don't like it, move on to something else.

An app that does not go through the playstore and has access to the network (to play IPTV or anything else) will always be able to check for updates especially if the modder did not find and disable all the functions that do that.  The OS has no way of knowing that the network access is for checking for updates.

You are lucky it is not one of my apps that was modded.  You don't even want to know what I did to systems when I detected a modded version of my app on them.  Users become very familiar with factory resets pretty quick as their systems become slowly and surely more and more flaky 🙂

  16. For 3rd party firmware, the only one I recall was CoreElec, which was created to boot of a μSD Card (will not install on the onboard storage), but only listed as supported by a limited number of boxes (X5, HD5 and U5).  I was meaning to try it ages ago, but never really got around to it.  This was announced back in 2022, so not sure if it is still supported with newer versions.

I want to use my Buzztv XRS4900 more widely and not only as Tvbox.

Notificatios (Status bar) are not availble on this box. Is there any chance for an update for this or any other way to obtain working notifications, alternatively could a third party firmware be installed and how to do this. Thanks

    JL Garnier

Don't expect any updates on the 4900 in terms of OS/firmware.  Pretty sure that ship has sailed, since that is a 4 series box and they have since moved onto the 5 series and now 6 series (which are now using AndroidTV and not just a heavily customized Android OS).  The 4900 does still get BuzzTV 5 software updates though.  I have 2 of these and they are still my main devices.  These devices are customized heavily to be TV devices.  Notifications on TV devices would be really annoying.

I don't have any apps that would provide any notifications (not even logged into Play store), but I do recall when I first got the units (many years ago) and was playing around with them I did get a few "dings/chimes".   But since today my boxes are all sideloaded with any 3rd party apps I want there is nothing generating notifications.

Now in terms of 3rd party apps (or anything else), well that is for you to experiment with if you choose and at your own risk.  Since they are not Buzz apps, this is not the forum to discuss 3rd party apps or other.

  18. I think pretty much all of us understood that you were NOT using the original power supply, hence why the reply from allaboutbuzz on May 1 started with "Not using the correct power supply is your issue"...

Do you have any USB stick or external hdd/device connected t the unit ?  If you do, maybe try removing it for a while.

Does the reboot happen when you watch any specific channel ?

If you leave the unit powered on, not streaming, in some submenu (so you can know if it reboots), does it reboot ?  Maybe leave it on one night and see.  Just curious.

And as requested previously, "Can you post what FIRMWARE version you are running ?  Should be listed in the Updates screen (f/w and s/w version would be nice)."

  19. After the factory reset you did... Are you installing any other software ?

Just want to ensure it is not some other 3rd party software which is doing something odd in the background.  I know many people have a habit of always reinstalling the same basic software they are used to, over and over by default.  But in this case, the X5 SS is Android 13 (not Android 9 or 11 like previous boxes) so even the most basic software which seems harmless, can be an issue if it does not behave with Android 13.

BTW: You can't blame buzz for the extra $40 you had to spend to diagnose, because you misplaced or lost the original power supply.  You say you bought the unit in Sept.  If the original power supply was defective, I'm sure Buzz would have replaced it since it would have been under warranty.  Just saying... 🙂

Can you post what FIRMWARE version you are running ?  Should be listed in the Updates screen (f/w and s/w version would be nice).
