Flyinghigh Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 I am trying to add external storage via a USB drive. I have a Scandisk 64GB 3.0 USB drive. I am using the blue USB port on the x5. The desired outcome will be to eliminate the error message about timeshift. I was able to successfully format the drive using the x5. I moved the apps to the drive successfully. However, after that, the system became very slow and then locked up. The remote would not control anything. So I tried to repair the ARQ-100 to the dongle. Still locked up. I removed the external drive and the system works again. I have tried 2 64GB drives. I think I may have a 32GB lying around somewhere that I could try. I also have a larger WD hard drive I could add to the system if that will fix it. So "guru's", what am I doing wrong? Quote
Ryu Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 (edited) you should not move apps to external drive. thats the reason its locking. try to add drive but dont move apps..etx to that drive. do you have SSD to test and try? Edited July 22, 2022 by Ryu Quote

Leave your external drive connected. go to settings click Device preferences click Storage Click on internal shared storage Click migrate data to this storage Click move now Once done go back and remove the external storage Note: do not connect that drive back again until/unless you format this derive from your pc as it may cause some issues to your box. Thanks Ryu. At this point, I have not been able to move them back because the x5 locks up when any drive is inserted. I have formatted the USB stick and the 2tb hard drive I have to put in play. No drive is connected. Let's continue from here. If a reset is helpful, I am willing to do that. Quote
Ryu Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 ok leave device connected and reboot your box. as soon box turns on just follow the steps and see if that helps. use original remote control if you can. if does not work then you can try reset option. Quote
Flyinghigh Posted July 22, 2022 Author Posted July 22, 2022 Okay, Ryu. I will be away from the device for the next few hours. I will get back on this around 4 EST. Thanks for your help. Quote
Flyinghigh Posted July 22, 2022 Author Posted July 22, 2022 Well, I am home. The x5 will not do anything with an external drive connected. I guess a reset, it is. Before I go there. I want to use external storage with this device IF that is necessary for TS. I want to be able to pause and rewind TV. So, what steps do you suggest when I reset this device, besides following the prompts to get it going? Quote
Flyinghigh Posted July 22, 2022 Author Posted July 22, 2022 Yeah, I knew how to get it setup. I was asking more about when to put in a setting or change an option. I am up and running now. No external drive. I think I am going to sit tight for a bit about an external drive question. Better do some more reading. Quote
dishuser Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 I put in my sd card and formatted as removable storage then turned ts on and selected that drive 1 1 Quote
Ryu Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 (edited) since your box works fine without connecting external device then theres no need to reset your box. just connect that external device to your pc and format it first then connect to your box. 1. Connect your usb stick to any of USB port. (USB 3.0 works better) 2. Go to settings 3. Click storage 4. Click on your usb stick 5. You should see option erase and format as removable storage. So click on it. (If you dont see this option then format your usb first and once done dont use usb as a internal storage. Just click on move later and start from step 3 again. Now you should see erase and format as removable storage option. 6. Click format 7. Once done, now you should see usb as removable storage. 8. keep pressing back until you get to home screen 9. Now click live tv 10. While watching live TV press menu 11. Go to PVR 12. Go to PVR Options 13. Turn on Timeshift 14. Click Timeshift Cache Storage and select your USB and go back 15. Timeshift Cache Size (up to as much you want, 2 GB is good enough) 16. Download Storage select your USB 17. Now when you go to live TV and you should see TS option lid up on bottom right next to CC REC and HD info. If not press info button to see it in bottom right corner. 18. Now you should see white solid line on top of blue line indicating you can go back up to that time. You should be able to use pause and rewind function now. 19. If you dont see TS option in info bar that mean you won’t be able to rewind/pause this channel or stream Note: TS works on secondary player only. Edited July 22, 2022 by Ryu 1 Quote
