Hhh Posted Monday at 05:40 PM Posted Monday at 05:40 PM (edited) Hello All, My Specs:- XRS4500 Version 9. Build V20220106.20220106 Kernel:4.9.113 | Buzz TV 5.0.937 | HighSpeed AT&T Fiber Internet. Issue:- Intermittently Buzz box hangs. I am unable to scroll through live TV channels. and also starting a VOD movie does nothing. Workaround:- RESTART buzz box. Sometimes this work with one restart. Sometimes it does with more than one. This is very frustrating as typically we only use the Buzz box few hours in the evening. This has becomes an issue almost every evening now. Items Tried :- As mentioned a restart helps sometimes. But not sure why I need to do this daily? Cleared cache as recommended in earlier forums. But this did not help. Once we get it to work - it works seamlessly. The issue is always when we begin watching each evening. Thoughts and if this a known issue with any fixes? Thanks! Emporium Posted Monday at 06:00 PM Posted Monday at 06:00 PM May be time to Backup your BuzzTV 5 settings and then do a hard factory reset (pin method). I use my 4500 in the basement all the time, and don't have any such issues. Actually it is one of the boxes I rarely turn off. It is set to exit LiveTV after 2 hrs of inactivity, and it is always powered up. Not abnormal to go a month, or more, without ever powering it off. My 4500 is a V20220919, and at 5.0.946 . Not sure why your box has not updated. I'd start with a hard factory reset. Quote
nbs. Posted Monday at 06:47 PM Posted Monday at 06:47 PM Have you hit menu button , check updates? Quote
Hhh Posted Monday at 07:49 PM Author Posted Monday at 07:49 PM I have never backed up Buzz TV settings: can you list the steps please? Also - is there a setting to turn Buzz off after 2 hours of inactivity?: If so where is it? I am not sure why my Buzz version is different - when I ask for it to check Update - it says its UPDATED. Have you checked your remote to make sure its working properly and has new batteries? As it could be a remote issue Quote
Hhh Posted Monday at 07:52 PM Author Posted Monday at 07:52 PM This is not a remote issue. It works fine. As stated in my org post: Once I go past this issue (by using workarounds I listed), everything works great, including the remote. Quote
Emporium Posted Monday at 07:53 PM Posted Monday at 07:53 PM He's also not on latest firmware (unless it was different version dependant on 4500 variant). To backup, From buzzTV, hit menu, settings, configure, and if you scroll down you should have the backup&restore option. Make sure to backup to USB (not local). Your USB stick should have a "zip" file on it, if you backed up to usb. And keep in mind, you will need to reinstall and 3rd party apps. Quote
Hhh Posted Monday at 08:45 PM Author Posted Monday at 08:45 PM I just hit the BACKUP & RESTORE to a USB stick. After that the TV screen has stayed blank with the Buzz box having regular blue light. Does this process take longer than 2 minutes? Quote
Emporium Posted Monday at 09:00 PM Posted Monday at 09:00 PM No.. should take less than 5 seconds.. Quote
Hhh Posted Monday at 09:16 PM Author Posted Monday at 09:16 PM Ok, Took power out and plugged back in. I see 5.0.946 now. Not sure how :). So far it is working. I'll wait for the issue to happen again, and at that point, you recommended HARD RESET/PIN. I cannot locate a spot on my Buzz box for a PIN reset, what could I be missing? Quote

Hhh Posted 18 hours ago Author Posted 18 hours ago (edited) so last night - same issue. The hang happened when I begin to watch Live TV or VOD. (mostly VOD). This morning I did the Hard Reset. Paired my remote. New version: 5.0.766 (wont let me get a newer version) It shows REMOTE FOUND but would NOT exit that remote pairing screen so I had to use BACK to get out of that screen. Then the TV screen goes blank. I take out the power of Buzz and re-insert to start it again. (this is the only way I get the buzz start up screen) When I go to RESTORE from last nights backup - it says RESTORE file corrupted Edited 18 hours ago by Hhh Quote
Emporium Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago For 5.0.766 it can take some time before the updates are all pushed. Give it some time. Sometimes less than an hour, other times, can take a day. For the backup file being corrupted, it is just a ZIP file. If you put it on a PC, can you open the zip file ? It contains a single file inside (if I recall it is called backups.yaml) which contains the info. Can you actually open the zip file on a PC ? Don't know how it got corrupted, but it's unfortunate. Guess you'll have to recreate the server entry and all the settings/favourites. TV Screen going blank. Have you tried another cable, and possibly connecting the box to another HDMI port on the TV ? Just to rule out a bad cable or even a bad port ? 1 Quote
Hhh Posted 13 hours ago Author Posted 13 hours ago UPDATE: As correctly mentioned, I waited for some time and now I have version 5.0.937. I added the server entry again (which was the easy part). Now I will have to browse through 1000s of channels to list my favorites If you recall, yesterday I mentioned that the backup piece took a long time and screen want blank:- I am guessing this was a sign for me that the backup was corrupted perhaps? Now, I will wait for tonight and see if the hang happens at the beginning of starting my streaming session. Thanks until now to get this updates, now I really hope this fixes my issue. 2 Quote
