BuzzTV U5 Box Turns on at Max Volume

Recommended Posts

This issue has been happening for a few weeks now, and I can't link it to any event, such as a firmware update.

When I turn it on and go to LiveTV, the volume is at the Max setting. It startles everyone in the house! It's getting really annoying, and I've looked everywhere in the settings and can't seem to find anything that fixes it. I would really appreciate some help. Thanks!

Here are specs on my box:

U5 128

Firmware Version: V20230815

Current IPTV Version: 5.0.935

Turn max volume off

This setting was set to off already.  The only thing that changed when I turned it on was that it did not allow me to change the volume at all.  When I turn it off, the box still starts up at max volume, but I can durn it down from there.

Thanks for suggesting this, but it's not fixing the issue.

Yeah, I agree it's really strange. Super irritating. Ok, I will try that. Never backed up a box before, how do I do that?

menu/settings/configuration/backup & restore

Ok, thanks for your help so far.  I backed up everything to a USB thumbdrive.  Now I'm trying to reset and there is nothing in the menus to do that, so I'm trying a hard reset (I've done this before on other boxes). For some reason, the hard reset isn't working as expected. I unplug the unit, press in the reset button and hold it while plugging the unit back in and keep it this way, but it only ever shows a BuzzTV logo screen and nothing else.

Am I missing something for the hard reset?

Did you feel the button click when you are holding it in?

If you did it correct you should come to an Android screen not a BuzzTV screen.

Ok, I came back to the tv and it was in the Android menu.  Took a really long time to get there.  Did a hard reset, now the box boots up like 10 times faster.  Restored and I'm not able to connect to my server so I'm waiting on my guy to respond for that part, then I'll be able to test the volume and let you guys know.

Thanks for all your help so far.  I think this is going to work.  The box is responding so much quicker now already.

I had the exact same issue on my B5, E5, X5 and eventually on my Classic about a year ago.  And I don't know what triggered it.  And I have a friend who had the exact same issue on 2 of his 3 boxes.

It is not that you can't control the volume.  It is that it always powers up with Volume at max. It's like the box does not remember the last volume state.  OR it get's overwritten as part of the shutdown script.  And reason why I say that, is that funny enough, instead of doing a "shutdown" using the remote, you pull the plug on the box, when you plug it back in, it would power up with the last volume setting.  So if if you suspend or pull the plug, you don't have this issue.  But if you shutdown, you need to remember to decrease the volume before launching any app, otherwise it plays at full volume 🙂

Initially when the issue happened, even a hard reset would not clear the problem.  Tried many times.  It was reported and apparently fixed in one of the f/w updates, but my boxes continued to exhibit the issue.  Then I realized that after the fix, I did have to do a hard reset for the fix to kick in for some reason.

My mom's B5 I believe still has that issue, but she has learned to live with it, and not complaining.  I have not had time to hard reset her box 🙂  I may just prep another box for her with all her settings, and swap it out one of these days.

Anyhow, if you are latest firmware and you do a hard reset, this issue seems to be fixed (at least on my boxes).

@badassaf you don't need to wait to get a connection.  First set your powerkey definition to "shutdown", and force max volume to off.  It is quite obvious to test. put your volume to say 1/3 of the volume.  Shutdown the box, then power it up, and then try to adjust volume.  If it starts at the 1/3 volume point, then it works fine.  If you see that the volume starts at max, then the problem is still there.  You could also start something like youtube if you prefer while you wait.

@Emporium Ok, I followed all those steps and tested, and the issue is resolved. The volume stays at the level it was at when I shut it down.

Thanks, @nbs.@sea157@dishuser, as well, for your help with this.

No more yelling at my kids when they forget to turn down the volume when turning the box on 🙂
