I personally prefer SSD drives.  A decent quality, name brand SSD in my opinion is the way to go.

Quicker to access.  require less power, and generate a lot less heat than some mechanical drives.  Prices have dropped quite a bit.  Even a Crucial MX500 series 1TB SSD, or even a Sandisk 1TB Ultra can be had for under CDN$80 on amazon canada.
