jawjahpeach Posted Wednesday at 01:35 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:35 AM A couple of days ago I was going through the apps on my X5, looking to see which ones I might want to delete. I opened Virus Total Mobile, an app I don't remember ever using and don't even remember installing. I closed it fairly quickly and moved on. I just noticed that in settings it said there were 2 accounts - mine and Virus Total Mobile. Is this an app that should be deleted? Any other security measures I should take? It's in the Google Play Store. When I attempted to post this, the spam protection error message box popped up and said my registration has been denied, to contact admin at cs@buzztv.com. Forbidden! You sent forms too often. Wait a few minutes. It's been months since I submitted a question. When I attempted to email, the email address was flagged and I was instructed to correct it. Quote
dishuser Posted Wednesday at 04:55 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:55 AM you or someone with access installed it it's a safe app to use Quote
jawjahpeach Posted Wednesday at 09:51 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 09:51 PM (edited) I'm the only one with direct access and hopefully the only one with access at all. The issue is not that it's there because I very well may have installed it on advice of an "expert." The issue is the second account that was just created after I opened the app. The second account was not created by me. If it's a safe app to use, why would a second account be created on my X5 just by my opening the app? Edited Wednesday at 09:52 PM by jawjahpeach Quote
Emporium Posted Wednesday at 11:38 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:38 PM Anti Virus apps work in strange ways, and maybe that is their way of doing some sorted of protected scanning. I don't bother with AV programs on Android. Other than watching TV, I don't do anything critical with those boxes (no banking or anything else sensitive). Hell I even disable Google Protect since it often gets in the way when I want to sideload certain apps. Quote
jawjahpeach Posted Friday at 09:31 PM Author Posted Friday at 09:31 PM I also don't do anything sensitive on the boxes [or even on my phone] and I also disabled Google Protect for the same reason [although I'll find it re-enabled from time to time]. I just don't understand how it could create an 2nd account on my X5 just by me opening the app. Thanks! Quote
Emporium Posted Saturday at 12:07 AM Posted Saturday at 12:07 AM (edited) If you suspect anything odd, then backup your servers on buzztv 5 onto a usb stick (to easily restore servers/favorites and/or setting later), and then reset the box if you'd like. Maybe it was installed along some other 3rd party app you installed. Anything more we say would be just speculation. You have the info now, you can do as you see fit.
