Does not go back to previous channel

Good afternoon,

My Classic Ann. Ed.  does not go back to previous channel when the return button is pressed, it goes to the EPG ( half the screen will be the EPG and the other half the current program being watched) .  I have reloaded from my provider and rebooted numerous times which does not help.

I also have a 4900 and a couple of 4500 boxes which always go back to the previous channel. 

Any suggestions as to what might be the issues?

Please provide a little more context.  

First of all, always start with F/W and S/W versions of your box.

You are in what screen when you press the "return" button ?  Channel listing, EPG listing, settings menu, etc.. ?

And you are talking about the "return" button, and not "last channel" button, correct ?  Layout on remotes is slightly different, ensure you are pressing the correct button.  Muscle memory can get you to press buttons, in the location you are used to pressing them on older boxes, but they may not correspond to the same function.

Guess it was muscle memory.

Where the back button is on the BT/IR 100/200 remotes, is now the GUIDE/EPG button on the BT250/350 remotes.  Guess it would explain why you see the EPG screen.
