Jean Louis Posted yesterday at 09:53 AM Posted yesterday at 09:53 AM I want to use my Buzztv XRS4900 more widely and not only as Tvbox. Notificatios (Status bar) are not availble on this box. Is there any chance for an update for this or any other way to obtain working notifications, alternatively could a third party firmware be installed and how to do this. Thanks JL Garnier Quote

Thanks JL Garnier Don't expect any updates on the 4900 in terms of OS/firmware. Pretty sure that ship has sailed, since that is a 4 series box and they have since moved onto the 5 series and now 6 series (which are now using AndroidTV and not just a heavily customized Android OS). The 4900 does still get BuzzTV 5 software updates though. I have 2 of these and they are still my main devices. These devices are customized heavily to be TV devices. Notifications on TV devices would be really annoying. I don't have any apps that would provide any notifications (not even logged into Play store), but I do recall when I first got the units (many years ago) and was playing around with them I did get a few "dings/chimes". But since today my boxes are all sideloaded with any 3rd party apps I want there is nothing generating notifications. Now in terms of 3rd party apps (or anything else), well that is for you to experiment with if you choose and at your own risk. Since they are not Buzz apps, this is not the forum to discuss 3rd party apps or other. Quote
Emporium Posted yesterday at 04:29 PM Posted yesterday at 04:29 PM For 3rd party firmware, the only one I recall was CoreElec, which was created to boot of a μSD Card (will not install on the onboard storage), but only listed as supported by a limited number of boxes (X5, HD5 and U5). I was meaning to try it ages ago, but never really got around to it. This was announced back in 2022, so not sure if it is still supported with newer versions. https://wiki.coreelec.org/coreelec:buzztv Quote
