Both boxes are at Jan 13 update, it seems to me recording was fine at first but started acting up I think in March like the beginning of the month?

The E5 has a 250GB SD card , the B5 recording was to internal memory. My buddy is using a B5 recording to USB. I can't help but think this has something to do with a guide/date issue. I just switched the box to get guide from server (E5). I am trying another recording now. Also should be noted the recordings that fail they are usually just under two minutes, recording from live TV. Using an XCI login.

And you XC login allows more than one connection ?

If you hit record button manually while watching  show, will it record for the whole hour ?

BTW: I am not a fan of recording to SD cards.  Had a few issues early on with them, and decided it was just not worth it.  The B5 can also be picky since it does NOT have a USB 3 slot.  They are only USB 2, and hence not as fast.  So you do need a good quality stick to ensure it does not occasionally hang up.  Also, all record testing should ideally be done on a wired connection, since the recording will stop with even the slightest stream glitch.

The B5 and E5 are obviously the most entry level of the 5 series, so if you planned to do a lot of recording, not sure they were the best options.  The B5 depending on what you are doing while it is recording, could get a little overwhelmed (due to the fact that it is entry level and the lowest powered CPU), so when it is recording, you should ideally not be launching or playing with other apps.  It is a great basic streamer for IPTV, but it will not multitask well.

Don't see how the guide has anything to do with the recording.  It only serves to pull the start and end times (and any metadata if available), which you can also override manually.  I even record on streams which I have no EPG at all, just by creating manual entries.

The thing that is odd here is for a time they all recorded well. The SD cards are high quality as for the USB. I just tried recording golden girls and it quite at 2:28.

I am going to try a series to see if it's any different. I wonder if the developers could do a few tests? My XC login has 6 connections.

SD card can be of the best quality.  But we have no clue on the specs of the SD slot itself and what class it can support/drive.  So we don't know what sustained write speeds it can maintain.

So in the case where the user is using a USB (Kingston USB3) for storage yet the recording stop at about 1:50 second or so give or take. Anyone seen an issue like that and have a solution?

Try recording to internal first to see if that works any better.  That way you eliminate the external storage factor from the equation.

Don't forget the B5 only has USB2 ports, so you will never get USB3 speeds out of that.

Can you specific what boxes and what firmware and what buzztv version of software the are running (and please don't just say "they have the latest").
