MaxArk68 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I have an XRS4500 Max. Is it possible, and if so how, to connect my portable USB DVD drive to my device to watch DVD media through the media box? I've plugged the DVD drive into the media box's USB port thinking I might be able to access the disk's content through VLC or a file manager, but it appears as though the hardware isn't being recognized. MaxArk68 Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 Hi @dishuser. I'm going to declare my ignorance here. I'm not sure what you mean. My guess in no as I have no idea how to. Quote
dishuser Posted March 2 Posted March 2 settings/device preferences/storage does it show the drive? Quote
MaxArk68 Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 Thank you for your support. Ah. No, it isn't recognized there. Just the internal device storage shows. Quote
dishuser Posted March 3 Posted March 3 when plugged into a pc what does it show for format type? Quote
MaxArk68 Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 When I plug into the PC, it gets recognized. Type: CD Drive, File System UDF, Is this what you are referring to? Quote
Emporium Posted March 3 Posted March 3 I just tested my external USB powered BluRay player and an old externally powered USB DVD writer on both the 4500 (Android 9) and the Classic (Android 11) and both do NOT recognize the device at all. It never shows up under storage, and I tried searching the file system, to see if it was just mounted in the back end, but not shown in storage, and nothing. Quite possible the optical drivers are simply NOT included, since most Android based devices do not have a CD/DVD rom drive. And nowadays, it is rare on anything 2 Quote
MaxArk68 Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 Thanks @Emporium for your analysis. I guess this isn't doable. I appreciate everyone's effort! Quote
