If you're using a MAC Server it has only one connection
Same goes if you're using XC or M3U with just one connection.

So if you start a recording while watching, the app records it in the foreground
That is why it stops recording if you stop watching it, as in go to the home screen or turn the box off.

If you scheduled the recording and aren't using the box, the background recorder will start recording it
This also works if the box is in Standby, or if you have an X5, U5 or Classic and use Shutdown for power off, the box will boot up to record
If its in suspend, it will record in the background.

If you're using XC or M3U with 2+ connections, when you record something even while watching it
The background recorder will automatically create a new connection and use that to record it
This allows you to change channels and watch something else, or use another app/go to the home screen etc.

This is just how our app works to record

    Thanks for the detailed response.

I am running into the same problem. This is when you want to record the current program that you are watching. You press the red button to record then confirm and save the recording settings. You will get some message can helps s that the recording stream starts, etc. After a couple of minutes you press the Home key. Soon after a message will appear that the recording has finished which is not what you want to happen.  The expectation is that it will continue to record even if you turn off the tv and STB (power off configured to suspend).

Note that a scheduled future recording works as expected

I hope others can help. Thanks.

I figured out a work around for those experienceing the same problem as me when trying to record a program in progress.

While watching the program, click on the Menu button and select PVR function.

    Click on Scheduled Recordings

    Select Create Manual Recording

Scroll down to Channel name and choose the channel to record. Notice the current program will automatically populate into the Program name field

Adjust the Start time one or two minutes forward (i.e. past the current time).

Adjust the end time to when the program ends.

    Click on Save.

    Click on Home key

    Power off STB and TV.

    I hope this helps.

Can you post what version of Firmware and Software you are running ?  Just to make sure you are running the latest versions, and you are not for some odd reason stuck at an older version.

Software version you can easily find if you press the menu button when watching LiveTV, and it is at the bottom V5.0.xxx.   Firmware you can find in the Updates screen V202xXXYY

App / software version is 5.0.919

    Firmware version v20230815

are you exiting before going to home page?

     Not sure what you mean.

I press the record (red) button, wait until messages confirm recording has started appear, and then press the Home key. Soon after this a message appears to say the recording is finished.

My problem with recording with my X5 box is the fact that I can't turn my TV off after starting a recording. As soon as I do it cancels the recording. Doesn't matter if I turn the TV off with the TV remote or manually by hand. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know how to get around this?......thanks

Everyone needs stop saying you have the most current firmware update.  Just post your firmware and software version please.

Also, have you tried going direct HDMI to TV, without soundbar.  Just as a test ?

Have you tried a NEW HDMI cable, just in case the HDMI cable is not up to par.  Very strange that auto switches to 1920x1080.

    Thank you

    Thanks for your response.

The firmware update was from August 24th, 2023, V20230815. I understand a new update just came out but system has not detected it.

I have two X5 units and they perform the same with 2 different HDMI cables.

Also I tried sending the sound to the tv speakers instead of the sound bar and had no sound as well.

I will wait for the new update to see if that helps.

  7. Hello,

I recently set up my X5 64. Everything is good except for this issue. I am getting no Sound when my resolution is set to 3840x2160. I am hoping someone can help.

If I select the Auto Switch to best select resolution, the system sets the resolution to 1920x1080p 59.9hz and the sound is working. I tried switching to another HDMI port but no change.

    Here is my setup:

    TV:  Vizio M658-G1, 4k 120hz refresh rate

Audio: optical digital cable to Bose 550 sound bar

I have most the current firmware update.

    Thanks for your time.
